Making unforgettable memories is what we are all about!
Greetings Friends & Family, We hope that all of you have had a wonderful & safe summer.
Things have been busy around the farm throughout the summer. However, we all did find time away to enjoy the outdoors by camping, hiking and fishing. As many of you know we are located in the heart of the Great Smoky Mountains and have access to many outdoor activites. We know you love it here as much as we do.
New Arrivals
During this Spring we welcomed 3,000 new baby Fraser Fir trees to the farm. These Fraser Fir seedlings are called 3/2's. They are 5 years olds growing from a seed in a bed for 3 years then moved to a transplant bed for 2 years before coming to our farm. Typical planting seasons are in the Spring or Fall. Our new 5 year olds arrived in March and were around 20" tall when they arrived. They are now around 24-26" tall!
All seedlings were hand planted in the field with a gentle touch. We were graced this year to have plenty of rain and cooler temperatures to help them grow.
These trees will be ready for your home in 7 to 8 years.
Please take a peek when you are here at our "nursery" section for the new arrivals but remember not to step on them when walking in the fields.
Shearing
We have already been in the field (getting the trees ready for our wholesale & choose-n-cut season. 'To assure our customers in the wholesale & choose-n-cut the best quality & perfect shape. Our shearing in done in the Fall.
Shearing is done to regulate and direct the growth of individual trees. The object is to develop a symmetrical shape and to increase foliage density, which results in a fuller tree with uniform foliage. There are several types of tools we use to shear our Fraser Fir Christmas trees. These include hand clippers and shearing knives. We keep our equipment in tip top shape to protect the quality of our trees and our staff. It is quite interesting to watch the staff in the fields at work shearing. They take their time and are very precise. You never want to sneak up on them since they have sharp objects in hand:)
We do this each fall to ensure that you as our customers and family have the prefect tree. We are always available at the farm if you would like to come by and see this process for yourself.
